AITP-RTP Meeting – Neuroscience and Turbulent Times

Summary:

We’re almost halfway through 2020 and the “clear air” turbulence jolts us without pause. Professional and personal stressors continue to mount as job losses continue, stay-at-home orders whipsaw daily, and major social, public health, and political events happen on a scale and pace far from anything experienced in current memory. Is there anything more we can do to control the stress?

This on-line presentation is about going deeper than behavioral psychology, discovering new and different approaches to understanding what causes and how to deal with stress.

Delivered in two parts, the first segment explores how recent neuroscience findings have uncovered evolutionary processes directly affecting how we perform under and react to stress. Light on scientific terms, this segment describes what biological components are at play in our brains and their impact on day-to-day life.

The second segment is heavy on practical implications. You will come away with a new appreciation for how your brain, and the brains of your colleagues, families and friends, helps and hinders living and working in today’s world. You will also learn useful tactics and methods to counter or amplify the ways in which our brains work, to reduce stress and achieve consistently better outcomes for you and others.

About Our Speaker:

Leveraging a deep understanding of the roles communication and information technology play in business, from prior careers as a media producer and bespoke application developer, Cris has been successfully navigating a 20+ year solopreneur career as an independent consultant and contract initiative manager. New to the Raleigh-Durham area, he is looking for clients who need help managing complex projects involving diverse groups of people performing a myriad of roles, using a unique holistic and agile perspective only he can provide.

With respect to neuroscience, Cris’s early interest in the psychology of perception related to interpersonal and mass communication laid a foundation for a deep interest in neurobiology. His continued explorations into the biological workings of the brain were motivated by a diagnosis of a rare neuromuscular condition.

When he is not working for clients, you’ll find Cris flying quad-line stunt kites, cooking gourmet meals with his wife, researching areas like neuroscience and writing about things that have a direct impact on how people work and play together.
